It was the 32-year-old’s 109th race start in his 15 years of professional racing! He mentioned in the post-race podium interview, “Stewart’s back in the whoops, y’all,” when asked about what led to his historic win to be the first brothers to win a race in the premier class 450! Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb pushed forward to second place, passing Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Jason Anderson and Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen midway during the race. Roczen, who seems to be settled in third spot, collided with a lapper, which resulted in a crash and DNF after the chain in his bike derailed. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Chase Sexton, who got the holeshot and led most of the Tampa Supercross, crashed hard in the whoops and handed the lead to Stewart with just a few minutes remaining. Sexton recovered quickly, still in second, but was off the pace and dropped back to fifth in the final laps. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac injured his foot in qualifying and raced only to salvage points; he finished in 17th position. “Big bro, you know. You’ve done this a long time, racing Daytona and Jacksonville, and you know there’s something about that hometown crowd, buddy. I don’t know if they were twisting the throttle for me, because, for a split second, I was like, ‘Alright, I need to get this done.’ I was feeling really good, and you know what, Stewart is back in the whoops, y’all! ” – Malcolm Stewart, being interviewed by his brother and former Supercross champion James Stewart from the broadcast booth.    In the 250 East Class, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Max Anstie grabbed the holeshot, followed by teammates Pierce Brown and Daxton Bennick. Brown made a pass on Anstie for the lead and was riding really well until he crashed in the whoops and caused the stoppage of the race. The race was red flagged; hence, a staggered race start happened. In the end it was Anstie and Bennick who went first and second, while the injured Monster Energy Pro Circuit rider Cameron McAdoo finished third after a hard-fought battle with his teammate Seth Hammaker. “Pierce [Brown] went down. I hate to see that. He was riding so well and just spun and ended up going over the bars… After that, it kind of took the wind out of my sails. They red-flagged it; I and [teammate] Dax were up front, and it was like a day at the Goat Farm [Training Facility]. And honestly, I was like, ‘Let’s not do anything silly right now.’ The whoops were really tricky, and it’s round one, so you’re always a little more nervous.” – Max Anstie   Share this post Leave a Reply Cancel reply Logged in as mx_admin.
