San Diego, Calif. (January 18, 2025) It was an epic battle to the wire between Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac and defending Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450 Champion Jett Lawrence, where the former edges out the latter. It was a very exciting race as both of them battled their way to the front after a mediocre start where two-time 450 champion Cooper Webb led the opening laps battling with former rival Ken Roczen at one point but ultimately finished third, inside the podium. 

Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Jett Lawrence was closely behind Tomac the whole race, even as they both made moves for the lead over Webb. The Beast mode pace they were carrying was so ridiculously fast that they even lapped Motoconcept Honda rider Vince Friese, who got the holeshot! It was during the press conference that Eli addressed a moment where he thought he would lose the race because of the unpredictability of lappers positioning themselves as the front runners passed by. 

At the end of the 450SX race, it was 32-year-old Eli Tomac who took his 53^rd career Monster Energy AMA Supercross victory. He takes over the points lead for the first time since suffering what was potentially a career-ending injury in 2023.

In the 250SX Class racing, 18-year-old Julien Beaumer followed up his career-first podium last week at Anaheim 1 with his first career win.  Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies took the holeshot and led early with Beaumer making several moves for the lead. Veteran 250SX rider Jordon Smith of Triumph Racing is back inside the podium from last week in Anaheim 1 race. Defending 250SMX World Champion Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan fought forward from a mid-pack start but struggled the whole race admitting he suffered arm pump during the race. 

“Congrats to Juju, that was a good race on him. My race was just embarrassing, I’m sorry you had to watch that. I just got a little pumped up in the beginning and it just [got worse] from there. All I can do is work harder this week and come out swinging.” – Haiden Deegan
